Fusion, Civilitations and Binary Star Systems.

My personal belief is that the energy requirements to achieve, maintain, and use fusion are impossible to create at this point in time, and possibly ever.*
I don't think there ever would of been enough energy resources available on the planet to build, maintain, run, and support everything required to create and maintain a controlled fusion reaction on Earth.
But suppose we could use all of earth resources, as in Pacific Rim, into the project and it does happen; the result will be a catastrophic chain reaction that will consume the mass of earth and turn it into a companion star to sol.
This brings us to binary star systems. They are actually uncommon in the known universe. Instead they are the result of civilizations achieving fusion energy, collapsing their planet into a companion star to their original sun.
